Studio IX is a 501(c)3 nonprofit production company that elevates women and nonbinary documentary filmmakers with the resources, network, and funding needed to break into the industry and lead.
Currently, our focus is on helping filmmakers to fundraise!!! 💰 We’re on a mission to get more money in the hands of women and nonbinary filmmakers. We also pay special attention to moms and caregivers in our community, and are working to make sure they have access and are not pushed out.
OUR NAME
Pronounced Studio Nine: Our name is a nod to Title IX. Title IX leveled the playing field for women in the academic and athletic arena. At Studio IX, we’re working to level the playing field in film to ensure everyone’s right to create.

We don’t believe in waiting to “be discovered.” We’re creating our own way by teaching our community creative, strategic, and effective ways to get the resources you need to make and distribute your film, without relying on traditional systems that don’t work and keep us out.
The majority of our resources are created with emerging nonfiction filmmakers in mind, whether you are 16 or 96. If you dream of a career that allows you to do what you love while achieving the freedom of financial stability, you’ve come to the right place.

Tons of note-taking or lecturing without practice. Dense theory that isn’t practical. Boring trainings that don't provide practical or relevant skills. Information overload that’s hard to implement after the training. Solutions that rely on prior access to wealth.
Money + Resources + Access
Financial support for women filmmakers is essential. But financial support alone is not enough. Studio IX is creating a new model of grant-making focused on teaching entrepreneurial filmmaking for career sustainability.
We help our grantees develop the work and portfolio needed to break into the industry.
We teach them how to fundraise and find the resources needed.
We provide training, development and educational programming to ensure they thrive, lead, and help transform it once they're there.

Community
Studio IX strives to be a champion for diverse stories and perspectives. We celebrate women of all kinds and those who do not conform to gender binaries. We welcome male allies in our fight. We recognize the compounding oppression on BIPOC filmmakers, LGBTQA filmmakers, and filmmakers with a disability, and we commit to recognizing these factors and demanding that they guide our programming.
