DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Diversity and inclusion are more than just words to us. They are the foundation of our guiding principles that determine how we build our teams, cultivate leaders and create an environment where everyone is celebrated, heard and belongs. Studio IX believes that diversity, inclusion, and equity are essential to our mission and the design of our programming.

While we are an organization focused on closing the gender gap in film, we know that we cannot fight for gender equality without also acknowledging the historical and institutional barriers—particularly racial bias and discrimination— that directly affects who has access to exposure and opportunities in the film industry.

We acknowledge the compounding oppression at the intersections of race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, class, age, nationality and religion.

Studio IX strives to be a champion for diverse stories and perspectives and believes diversity is essential in the storytelling, creating, and documenting that shapes our world. We welcome all people into our community. Our programs are designed to directly support those who identify as women—regardless of assignment at birth— as well as people who identify as transgender, non-binary or gender nonconforming. We welcome, and need, male allies in our movement.

At Studio IX, we celebrate filmmakers who find their passion at any stage of their life, filmmakers who change careers or start a new career or come back to their career after raising children or caring for parents. We believe that filmmaking does not require a college degree but rather a strong desire and the passion to create.
